Reading Notes: Congo, Part B

Congo unit with stories collected from Notes on the Folklore of the Fjort by R.E. Dennett

The Antelope and The Leopard
-Congo unit has many references to antelopes
-this story explains why the leopard now always kills the antelope when he meets one
-in the beginning, the two were friends and played hide and seek.
-a life would need to be given if the leopard found the antelope
-the antelope transformed into a beautiful maiden so much so that the leopard was willing to do anything in order to wed her. He killed his four wives and dismembered himself upon request from the beautiful maiden.
-the antelope revealed itself to the leopard, and now the two live to hate one another
-fun story idea: to explain why some modern circumstance occurs today in a way that the author wrote this story

Both readings:
-hard to marry a beautiful woman
-a lot of animal references
-story ideas: have a prince ask for a beautiful woman's hand in marriage, but only if he left his kingdom to live on a farm with her and her animals
-a princess that had many men ask for her hand in marriage, and the one she accepts loves animals
-Disney princess reference
